State cadre for police constables

The state will now have a state cadre for police constables. This means they can be transferred anywhere within the state. Their recruitment will also be conducted by the state police board under the state cadre system. The Himachal Pradesh Police Amendment Bill, 2024, has been notified in the official gazette after receiving the President’s assent.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla had sent the bill to the President for approval, as the bill falls under the Concurrent List of the Constitution. Following the implementation of the new amendment, the recruitment of non-gazetted police officers of Grade-II will now be conducted by the Police Recruitment Board. This category includes Constables and Head Constables. This recruitment will now be done under the state cadre, ensuring a unified process across the state.
