In 2025, cancer caused 15 daily deaths in Himachal

In Himachal, a total of 5,382 died of cancer in 2025, as per latest data presented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Parliament in March 2026. Overall, cancer caused 8,68,588 deaths (around 2,380 daily) in 2025 in India.

In 2021, cancer caused 4,953 deaths in Himachal. This figure rose to 5,058 in 2022, to 5,173 in 2023, and to 5,274 in 2024.

Incidence of cancer is also on the rise in the state. Year-wise data of incidence of cancer cases in Himachal is shown in Figure 1.1.

Shimla, Solan, and Kangra districts report the highest incidence of cancer cases, while Kinnaur, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti show comparatively lower figures. Medical professionals in the state warn that the actual number may be much higher, as the patients in remote and tribal areas often go undiagnosed.

Among women, breast cancer is the most common form of disease, accounting for nearly 25 per cent of all such cases in the state. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer type among women in the pradesh, though it can be prevented through HPV vaccination and routine screening.
