Wife of a martyr will be called “Veer Vadhu”

The Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to remove the word “widow” from revenue records when referring to the wives of soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

In the revenue records, the term “Veer Vadhu” will now be used before the names of the martyrs’ wives. The words “martyr” or “shaheed” (martyr) may also be added before the names of army personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation. Hundreds of soldiers from Himachal Pradesh have laid down their lives defending the country.

Thousands of young men from Himachal Pradesh are currently serving in the armed forces. The Himachal Pradesh government has also decided to provide financial assistance of five lakh rupees each to the families of soldiers from the state who have sacrificed their lives while defending the country.
