President approves Himachal Pradesh Loktantra Prahri Samman (Repeal) Act, 2023

The President of India gave her assent to the Himachal Pradesh Loktantra Prahri Samman (Repeal) Act, 2023, in November 2025. This ac will discontinue the monthly allowance paid to individuals who were imprisoned during the 1975 Emergency period.

The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution to repeal this Act during the budget session on 3 April 2023. As per the President’s assent to the repeal of the Act on 6 November 2023, it will be deemed effective from 1 April 2023.

Following the President’s approval, beneficiaries who were receiving monthly financial assistance based on their imprisonment during the Emergency in 1975 will now stop receiving this amount.
