Bhai Hriday Ram

Bhai Hriday Ram was born on November 28, 1885, in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh (erstwhile Punjab). His father, Gajjan Singh, was a goldsmith by profession. Hriday Ram, after attending secondary school, started working as a goldsmith. He was a voracious reader and his father would bring him books and magazines to read. This inspired his love for the freedom of the nation and he was drawn towards revolutionary movements in the country.

Bhai Hriday Ram got inspired by the activities of the Ghadar Party, which was formed in the United States in 1913. He became an active member of the party and would go on to establish a unit at Mandi.

Role in the Ghadar Mutiny

“Ghadar Mutiny” or “Ghadar Conspiracy”, was an operation planned by the Ghadar Party to start a pan-India mutiny in the British Indian Army in February 1915, with an aim to end the British Raj in India. This operation involved people from many nations.

Bhai Hriday Ram played a major role in execution of this mutiny. He
travelled to Amritsar to participate in the party activities.
